JOB SUMMARY

The recently established University of Connecticut Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Centers Program (UConn TCTAC) is competitively recruiting a talented Program Coordinator (Research Assistant 3) in the areas of Energy Justice, Environment, & Transportation.  

UConn TCTAC supports New England as part of a nationwide USEPA program that provides free-of-charge assistance to communities, states, tribes, and other underrepresented groups to navigate Environmental Quality, Energy Justice, Climate Adaptation, and Environmental health challenges through federal grant application systems. The Center mission is to offer services such as grant writing support, identification of potential funding resources, data collection assistance, document review, technical consultations, and other targeted assistance aimed at removing barriers and improve accessibility to opportunities for communities with environmental justice concerns.

We invite applications for the open position of Program Coordinator. Under the direction of the Program Director, this position will work with TCTAC staff and student interns to help accomplish the mission of the UConn TCTAC program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

As part of the UConn TCTAC team, the selected Program Coordinator will work as part of the UConn TCTAC team to:

  • Help communities evaluate and provide technical assistance for grant applications in the areas of transportation and energy.
  • Identify technical and regulatory considerations and ensure these are considered as part of the proposals.  
  • Develop informational content for communities in the areas of transportation, infrastructure, and energy; interact with community stakeholders.
  • Assess the needs of the UConn TCTAC program and collaborate on identifying, developing, and implementing improvements to the program.
  • Assist with organizational, programmatic, planning, and other tasks and activities of the UConn TCTAC Program.
  • Oversee the work of students and assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing mentorship, professional development, and training.
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to technical reporting.
  • Assist with program outreach.
  • Perform related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental sciences, land use planning, or a related field with four to five years of post-degree experience OR an M.A. or M.S. in a related field and two to four years of post-degree experience.
  2. Demonstrated experience in transportation planning, environmental planning, energy, or urban planning.
  3. Experience working on the planning, design and/or assessment of engineering projects or urban developments.
  4. Excellent writing skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers, planners, and environmental professionals on the environmental and social impacts assessment of engineering projects including transportation, energy, urban development, and related areas. Ability to collaborate with constituents at other higher educational workplaces to ensure best practices are established.
  2. Familiarity with energy, infrastructure and transportation regulations in multiple New England states and Federal government.
  3. Experience with mapping tools (e.g., ArcGIS), Statistics packages (e.g., R, Stata), and project management tools.
  4. Experience with community engagement and collaboration.
  5. Experience in the solicitation and procurement of professional engineering, environmental services and construction contracting.
  6. Experience securing and/or administering EPA brownfield grants or other state and federal grants.
  7. Working knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese, or Chinese (Including Mandarin, Cantonese).

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, end-dated position at the University of Connecticut with a term of one year. The main work location will be the UConn campus in Storrs, Connecticut. Hybrid work may be considered in accordance with the University's Alternate Work Arrangements policy and authorization. Occasional day and overnight travel to locations around New England will be required. Attendance at multi-day training and professional conferences within New England or elsewhere in the U.S. will be optional. 

The University offers a competitive salary, and outstanding benefits, including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. Expected Annual Salary for this position will be between $70K and $80K and commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.

This position is subject to annual renewal, contingent on satisfactory performance and budget funding. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the American Association of University Professors UConn Chapter (AAUP).
